DEPLOYMENT & HOSTING

Vercel

Builds and deploys web applications with managed previews, production releases, edge delivery, and runtime services.

Last verified September 10, 2026

Best for / Not for

BEST FOR

  • Teams deploying Next.js applications
  • Products that need preview deployments for every code change
  • Web applications that prefer managed build and delivery infrastructure

NOT FOR

  • Commercial products that intend to remain on the Hobby plan
  • Teams that need unrestricted control over servers and networking
  • Workloads whose cost model does not fit metered managed infrastructure

Where it fits in your stack

Connects the source repository to automated builds, preview environments, production runtimes, and edge delivery. It can replace separately managed CI, web servers, and CDN configuration for supported applications, but it does not provide the primary database.

Pricing

Pricing model: Pro is $20/month per developer seat and includes $20 in usage credits per seat. Viewer seats are unlimited and free. Includes 1 TB Fast Data Transfer and 10M Edge Requests.

Free allowance: Hobby is free — 100 GB Fast Data Transfer, 1M Edge Requests, 1M function invocations, 4 hours of active CPU, and 1 team member per month. You cannot purchase additional usage on Hobby; hitting a cap stops the allowance rather than billing you.

Overage rule: not verified

Commercial use: The Hobby plan is for personal, non-commercial use only. Commercial projects require Pro.

Trade-offs

  • Convenient framework integration increases platform dependence
  • Usage is measured across several infrastructure dimensions
  • Moving server features later may require architecture changes
